Use Your FSA Health Benefits Dollars Before December 31

50% off your 2nd complete pair of eyeglasses through the end of the year

Hinsdale, IL (December, 2015) –  FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

If you participate in a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) through your employer’s benefits program, time may be running out. Some plans require the money you contributed to be spent by December 31, or you risk losing it.  Also, Vision Insurance/Discount plan benefits typically expire at the end of the year before resetting for the new year.  Use your benefits for exams and eyeglass materials/contact lenses before you lose them!

Savvy plan participants, such as you, are directing their spending towards eye care.  Each plan differs in details, but typically FSA will cover eye care expenses such as:

·        Co-payments and deductibles on a covered eye health examination

·        Routine eye health exams

·        Prescription eyeglasses, computer glasses, driving glasses

·        Contact lenses

·        Prescription sunglasses

·        Medications towards dry and other eye conditions

What to do next?

1.     Understand your plan and guidelines to know what is covered.

2.     Make an appointment with Hinsdale Advanced Eye Care as soon as possible.  Don’t wait until last minute.

3.     Keep good records.  You may need to provide receipts when you submit for reimbursement.

The Unseen Danger of Diabetes

Diabetic eye disease is the leading cause of blindness among adults

Hinsdale, IL (November, 2015) – November is National Diabetes Month and Dr. Treacy Adamo, O.D. of Hinsdale Advanced Eye Care, encourages anyone who has, or may be at risk for, diabetes to have an annual eye examination.

“Diabetes affects 18.2 million Americans, 5.2 million of which may not even know they have the disease,” Dr. Adamo said. “One of the health problems associated with diabetes is diabetic retinopathy, a disease of the eye which can cause blindness.”

Diabetic retinopathy can weaken and cause changes in the blood vessels that nourish the retina. Symptoms may include blurred vision, cloudiness, and/or “floaters.” Diabetes also increases a person’s risk for developing other eye diseases. For example, persons living with diabetes are 40% more likely to develop glaucoma and 60% more likely to develop cataracts.

“The early stages of diabetic retinopathy may produce no visual symptoms at all,” Dr. Adamo said. “That is why it is so important for anyone who has diabetes or a family history of diabetes to have a yearly comprehensive eye health examination. Early detection and treatment are essential because once damage has occurred, the effects are usually permanent.”
